Weekend Coupon Inserts

Due to the Independence Day Holiday, there will be no Smart Source or Red Plum Inserts in the papers, but you can look forward to the new P&G Insert! This will be in most any local paper. To take advantage of the sale prices make sure you have your Bonus Card handy or sign up for one at the customer desk. On B1G1 deals you can use one manufacturer coupon per item.  Also, keep in mind that a B1G1 item will ring up at half price even if you only buy one. You do not have to purchase 2 to get the deal. Remember, separate your transactions so that you can pay with your Register Rewards. Use filler items when you have more coupons than items (this usually happens when you pay for your transaction with a RR because a RR is counted as a Mfg coupon at Wagreens).

There are many combinations of products, coupons, and RR's that will save you money. I used this simple scenario to show you how it works. Remember, if you use a manufacturer coupon on every item in your purchase and you also pay with a RR, you have to use a filler item such as the dozen eggs for $0.99 (you get that price by using the coupon that is printed in the weekly circular. The cashier can scan it directly from the ad and it will deduct the correct amount from each one you purchase, so you don't have to have 3 coupons for 3 items). Also, if you plan to buy more than one of the same item that prints a RR, separate them into different transactions so that each RR will print. And don't use a Colgate toothbrush RR to pay for another Colgate toothbrush because the 2nd RR will not print.

You are probably wondering, "How does she know what is going to be on sale next week??" I Heart Wags displays the weekly circular several weeks ahead of time. Then, you can go to Sunday Coupon Preview to get a heads up on the coupons that will be in the weekend papers.

Notice that I used the Mac and Cheese as a filler item when my RRs caused the number of mfr coupons to exceed the number of items purchased. Also, remember to always separate like items with RRs into separate transactions. Lesson of the day: Make sure to check your receipt! I always take one of the boys with me so I'm usually playing with him instead of giving the check-out process the attention it deserves!

Common Cents Couponing

I am not here to persuade you to add an extra room to your home so that you can store 10 years worth of products. My goal is to (hopefully) teach you a common cents approach to couponing! When I first started, I spent an hour clipping and organizing coupons and probably another hour in Wal-Mart buying every single item I had a coupon for. After 30 minutes in the check out line and quite a few sour looks from the cashier, the big moment arrived: I spent $175.00 and saved...... $12.00! I could not believe that I had wasted all of my precious time for so little savings! A very smart lady whom I work with heard about this and gave me some pointers (thanks Trish!).
